BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND

Begin with the end in mind means knowing what your goal or desired outcome is in advance.  Knowing this helps remind you of where you are and what steps you should take next.

I’m sure you know people that are always busy.  They frantically run around all day, but at the end of the day, get very little accomplished.  Beginning with the end in mind can fix this challenge because you have a clear vision of where you want to end up.

When you take the time to set a goal, and review your progress daily, you will be able to see yourself getting closer and closer to achieving the desired outcome.

Yogi Berra asked this profound question, "If you don't know where you are going, how will you know when you get there?"

Creating a clear vision and step by step system for a new student is vital to his or her success. We help them measure their progress with our purposefully designed ranking system. This allows a student to set and achieve short term goals and midrange benchmarks to help them “chunk down” the long range goal of black belt into bite size pieces that are more manageable to digest.

What would you like to achieve in the next year?

What does “the end” look like as it relates to that goal?

What actions can you take on a daily basis to ensure that you achieve it?

IF IT IS TO BE IT IS UP TO ME

Martial arts students with a champion mindset know the value of setting goals and taking massive action.  They realize that in order to reach their true potential they must take the initiative to make things happen.

We all know people that make excuses for not achieving their goals or getting the job done.  They blame other people or circumstances for their lack of progress.  They will sell you on every reason why they couldn’t get the desired result.  But in the end, it’s all a bunch of excuses.

"There are those in the ranks who will stay in the ranks! Why? I'll tell you why: 'Simply because they haven't the ability to get things done!'"
~ Dale Carnegie

“If it’s to be...it is up to me” is a no excuses mindset.  It’s about taking consistent action and making things happen.

When obstacles come up, champions stay positive and proactive.  They may need to adjust the plan or the timeframe but they still see the project or goal through until it has been accomplished.

No blaming, no excuses, and no whining!  It’s all about accepting 100% responsibility and taking massive action.

When it’s time to go to class..GO!

When it’s time to get your homework done…get it done and give it your best effort!

When it’s time to make a healthy food choice so you can maintain your ideal weight...make the right call!

Don’t wait...create!  Make no excuses and repeat to yourself “IF IT IS TO BE IT IS UP TO ME!”

GRIND- Get Ready…It’s a New Day!

There really is no secret to success.  It’s quite simple when you think about it.  Show up.  Work hard.  Measure your progress.  Adjust as necessary.  Repeat.

When you look at it on paper, it looks simple.  But is it?  Not really!

Have you ever heard anyone refer to their life as the “DAILY GRIND?”.  They go on to explain how they have to get up, go to work, deal with a bunch of crap, listen to an annoying boss, struggle to find time for a workout, make dinner and go to bed only to have to get up and do it all over again the next day.

Sounds exciting and fulfilling, right?

I try to think of the “DAILY GRIND” a little differently.  GRIND stands for: Get Ready…It’s a New Day!

Do you think of your days and weeks as mundane and boring?  Are your goals exciting and igniting that fire in your belly?
Anthony Robbins says, “People aren’t lazy.  They simply have impotent goals – that is, goals that do not inspire them.”
When you have inspiring goals, you WANT to get up early.  You WANT to get up and get at it.  Burning the midnight oil is no longer something you have to do but rather something you want to do.

I see this happen when our newer students get the “martial arts bug.”  They go from saying that they don’t have the time in their scheduled to work out to finding time to train with us 2, 3 and sometimes even 4 times per week.  What happened?  Did they find the magic formula to add more hours in their day?

No.  They were inspired! inspiration leads to motivation which leads to action which ultimately leads to progress. Progress is the magic elixir for happiness.  Progress just feels good right!.  When we see forward progress with our fitness, health, finances, business, and family goals, we are excited to show up the next day and “GRIND IT OUT.”

YOU'RE DEALING WITH SOME CHALLENGES. GOOD!

It’s common in life to have some problems or challenges.  Sometimes injuries occur, car breaks down, finances are tight, etc.

Many people start crying the blues and telling everyone that will listen (whether they want to or not) about their troubles.

I don’t know about you but when I see someone like that coming toward me I start looking for the closest exit!

In his book Extreme Ownership, Jocko Willink, a former Navy Seal, would tell his subordinates “good” when they came to him with a problem.  Initially they would look at him like he is crazy, but then he would explain.

When you say “GOOD”, you are putting yourself in a positive state versus a negative one.  But more than just that, you are now going to view the situation differently.

Now you can get creative and find a solution.  You can get resourceful and find a new way.

Anthony Robbins says, “It’s never a matter of your resources, it’s always a matter of your resourcefulness.”

Now you have the chance to go back and figure out what went wrong and learn from it so it never happens again.  The past can be a great teacher.  It can teach you what to do again in the future, and in some cases, it can teach you what never to do again.

The question is, do you stop for a moment to look back and see what you have learned?

A problem or challenging situation may simply give you the chance to get mentally tougher and accept defeat.  And when you do that, you realize it’s never just a loss, it’s always a lesson.

None of us can control what is going to happen, although it would be nice.  But we have complete control over how we respond to what happens.  When we respond with the right attitude, we can make the best of it, and move on.
